A Mother’s Diet
Introducing a hearty and healthy eating habit to mothers
According to the field study and research by UNFAO, the majority of Myanmar pregnant and lactating women (PLW) are facing malnutrition as they lack knowledge about the variety of foods they have to eat.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. This project by UNFAO aimed to educate PLW in Myanmar on the importance of eating food variety, according to the Food-based dietary guidelines (FBDG).

Key Design Elements
Food items were simplified and weaved into the lacquer pattern. Influenced by patterns often seen in Myanmar textiles, we created seven interwoven layers of patterns for each food group. This design approach aimed to provoke a sense of familiarity to draw the audience in. On the other hand, this is a reminder that eating variety could be as simple as mixing and matching different foods that were already easily available around the mothers. We presented the diet model as a visual diagram that contains different food groups and examples with suggested portions to educate pregnant and lactating mothers on dietary diversity. We created a poster with the diet model to be used as a quick reference.
Booklets
For more detailed in depth reference, we designed four booklets centered around the same diet model that contain detailed explanations of nutrition and dietary needs for PLW mothers.
Colour
The colours have been adapted to match closer to the natural colours for excitement and contrast.
